As a follow up to my September 15, 2008 article Louisville Power Outage, I am sad to report that Louisville, Kentucky is once again without power, on quite a large scale, due to ice storms which ravaged the city on Monday evening. Early estimates say that Louisville, KY and Southern Indiana have over 500,000 homes and businesses without power, which is the largest power outage in Louisville history. The Courier-Journal has quoted Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) officials as stating that we can expect for most of the coverage to be out for 7-10 days. That is a chilling thought considering the average daily temperature is only 24 degrees.
What’s even more chilling is that this the second time Louisville residents have been without power on such a wide scale in less than sex months!! See Louisville Power Outage. However this time the outage is not as depressing for me because we have power at my house. On the September 15th outing, we were one of the last houses to have our power restores – 7 days without electricity in the middle of summer!
